ETA on the start...

Luckily for me my husbands business works with wood so the actual wood for the shell of the house won't cost me any money.

I had hoped to spend the long weekend doing the horrible part of transferring the plans to the wood and cutting it out.  It's going to be a bit of a process, as the husband is a bit finicky about his woodwork tools, and so he will have to teach me how to do the cutting and I have never tried to cut pieces out of wood before and that will make the windows a bit of a scary moment for me.

But the dear husband forgot to bring the wood home for me so the plans fell through unfortunately.

I asked him to bring it home tonight so that I can at least get the plans transferred during the week.

It's a bit of a pity as I had really hoped that by today at least I would be starting to put the house together but that's how things are I guess.

The Start Of A Long Adventure

Technically my adventure in Miniature's started years ago.

I knew that I wanted to get into miniatures but in a big, huge way.  It didn't make sense to me to start making furniture and other creations just to to pack them away and not to display them.  So of course the first thing that needs to be done is a doll house.

I looked online and came across two places that sold kits... the one was very expensive and the other one was more reasonable.  The problem is that at the time we just didn't have the money for even the more reasonable ones.  So I dug further into the world of the internet and came across a well done house that even had step by step instructions on how to make it.

You can see all the details here.

Lucky for me my husband is into woodworking and has alot of tools and so I printed out the plans and asked him if he could please cut it for me.  But he just either forgot or never got around to making it and I just let it go by instead of being a nag.  Then life got away and I just decided that it was probably best if I didn't do it as I still had a small daughter.

So a few days ago I was talking to a friend about hobbies and I realized that I still would like to try my hand at it.  So once again I went online and searched again.  Sadly the more reasonable place doesn't stock them anymore and the houses that I am into are on the very pricey side.

I figure if I am going to do this and spend years on this project I don't want to do something that I don't love.  Also I have found out that I am very picky and want things just so.  Obviously I still have to make my own as the husband will have a fit if he saw the prices of the size houses I am interested in.  So then I looked at the above house again, and realized that as well done as it is, it's two flaws in my picky mind.

One is the fact that the stairs go into a wall and you are to pretend that their is a hallway that they then come around again to the 2nd floor and she has added a fake area where the stairs would come out of it it really had gone through the hallway.
Second is the fact that the bathroom door also leads into this nowhere area.

So I have decided to use Jeniifer's plans and just change a few minor details.  I will be taking ideas from the actual dollhouse kit that I absolutely loved and using that as a base to change things up a bit.

The above is the Greenacre Front Opening House and I just love it to death.

So the first change I will be doing on the outside is adding siding and I will also add a front porch.
Then the idea for the inside is as follows:

First major change will be to lengthen the floors a bit on the house to make room for the interior changes.

My family will be a young husband and wife and so they get to play around with all that space.

1 lounge
2 entrance way with stairs (will have a wall placed where the red line is)
3 kitchen ( this will be made bigger on the right by the lengthened floor)
4 bedroom
5 hall/entry with stairs going up to the third floor (will have the right wall moved in line with the red line)
6 Absolutely luxurious bathroom (will aslo be wider)
7 will be the man's library/study
8 will be the woman's craft room

Now to sit down with the plan and figure out the exact sizes of the changes so that I can get the husband to come home with the right amount of wood and to drag him into his workshop one Saturday and just help him to get everything measured and cut in one day so that it is done.

Now I get to go look at doors and windows that I can order so that I can know which sizes I will be using though the house.
